Rail Yard Inspection Clipboard Celebrates 30 Years of Service, Receives Plaque

A rail yard marked the thirtieth year of continuous service of an inspection clipboard on Friday, presenting it with a plaque in a ceremony attended by fourteen staff and one supplier.
The clipboard has recorded every car inspection at the yard since 1996. Its forms are photocopies of photocopies. Three of the boxes on the current form are no longer legible, and are filled in from memory by the four people who know what they used to say.
“It’s never been down,” said the yard supervisor, who has worked there for twenty-two of the thirty years. “Can’t say that about anything else here.”
The plaque was mounted in the crew room, beside a printed notice announcing a paperless inspection initiative. The notice is dated 2019.
