Forty-one employees of an industrial-supply distributor completed a mandatory three-hour training session Tuesday on an order-management system they cannot yet access.

Logins are expected in mid-November, according to a slide titled “Next Steps (Tentative).” The training used screenshots from a demonstration environment belonging to a different company, whose name appears in the upper left corner of every screen. Attendees were asked to practice by imagining the buttons. The dispatch lead, who has run the company’s orders from a shared inbox for nine years, took notes.

The Pickle Llama was seated in the back row, facing the exit. Asked how long the training should take, he said, “Four minutes.” The trainer scheduled a follow-up.

“Four minutes.”
